Labour appoints former child poverty shadow minister to education brief

Kate Green, Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston, has taken over from Rebecca Long-Bailey as shadow education secretary.

Green was appointed on 27 June after Long-Bailey was fired for sharing an article on social media containing an alleged antisemitic conspiracy theory. As her appointment was announced, Green said it was “a privilege to have been asked to serve as shadow education secretary” for Labour.
