Clinical trials, student visas and vocational education form part of this week's activity in the UK Parliament. An analysis of access agreements and a report into the private provision of higher education are also expected.
Today the UK Parliament returns, as does the Welsh Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly. This afternoon David Willetts, the universities and science minister, is due to appear before the House of Commons Select Committee on Business, Innovation and Skills to answer questions on clinical trials. Meanwhile the House of Lords is expected to hear oral questions on proposals to privatise or reorganise the handling and repayment of student loans and on the decline in the popularity of part-time university study. The week ahead is also busy in the UK Parliament: a debate about vocational education is scheduled for tomorrow; a backbench debate on student visas is due on Thursday; and the deadline for the submission of written evidence to the Commons committee’s inquiry into the potential effects of possible Scottish independence on science, research and higher education falls on Friday.
The Welsh Assembly is due to hold a committee hearing of the Further and Higher Education (Governance and Information) (Wales) Bill on Wednesday.
