Some sound reporting on the costs of university is proving popular, writes Alison Goddard.

Is higher education worth it? The Economist has investigated and concluded that the financial returns depend on the subject studied and the institution attended, which seems obvious but strangely refreshing. The article is highly recommended by its readers and is second only to a piece about the Indian elections, according to the newspaper’s website.

The Financial Times has an amusing Q&A session on international student numbers, which recommends that the UK should follow the example of its biggest rivals for international students, the US and Australia, and count them as temporary migrants. It concludes that such a move would (£) enable the Tories to "meet their daft objective while limiting damage to the economy".
