Backlash against retrospective changes to student loans

Campaigner explores legal challenge to the government's decision to alter terms and conditions of existing loans.

Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, says he has hired lawyers to investigate whether there are grounds to conduct a judicial review of the government’s decision to tinker with the repayment terms of students loans in England. Those who took out loans that did not have to be repaid until they were earning £21,000 after graduation will face less generous terms, as the threshold is frozen. Banks would not be allowed to to make retrospective changes to loan conditions and the government shouldn’t either, argues Mr Lewis.
