A perfect storm in Wales

Huge funding cuts coincide with publication of an interim report on the sustainability of the current financial arrangements.

As the Welsh funding council faces cuts of one-third, a review of higher education funding and student finance arrangements in Wales is now due to appear on 18 December. It forms part of a two-year review led by Sir Ian Diamond of the University of Aberdeen, which was supposed to appear in autumn 2015 but has now been delayed until the last full week before Christmas; ironically Sir Ian’s previous magnum opus was on efficiency and effectiveness in higher education.
