The higher education and research bill will ensure a student representative sits on the board of the Office for Students.
The government has agreed to amend the higher education and research bill—but it still plans to revoke the royal charters and repeal the previous acts of parliament that ensure university autonomy. Labour will call for further amendments to be made to the bill during its third reading in the Commons, which is now expected to take place after the autumn statement is delivered next week. It will then be introduced to the Lords, either in the last week of November or the first week of December.
