Manifestos due this week

The higher education and research act has been passed into law after receiving royal assent.

It creates the Office for Students and UK Research and Innovation, while abolishing the Higher Education Funding Council for England and reducing to committee level the research councils. The act will allow tuition fees to rise in England and aims to make it easier for private providers to become universities.
