Future legal proceedings look possible at the Office for Students and the Universities Superannuation Scheme

First, the good news: UK higher education now has its own saint, following the canonisation of John Henry Newman by Pope Francis at a ceremony in the Vatican on 13 October. Newman is the author of The Idea of a University and the founder of the institution that later became University College Dublin.

The way things are going, universities will need someone to pray to. Thomas Aquinas is the official patron saint of higher education, but it can’t hurt to have more than one.
