Manifestly sensible

UUK is the latest sector body to release its general election manifesto

To very little fanfare, Universities UK released its general election manifesto late last week, outlining what it wants to see from the political parties contesting the 12 December vote. It followed similar policy calls from bodies including the Russell Group and the National Union of Students, but is arguably of more interest to Playbook readers than both.

Citing more than £13 billion in export earnings and the provision of 940,000 jobs, the Universities UK manifesto rightly calls UK higher education a success story, adding that it is “calling on all political parties to put policies in their election manifestos which will make sure this success continues, and further increase the positive contribution which our universities make to the UK, and to the entire world”. Few, if any, in the sector would argue with that.
