Last night, House of Commons speaker John Bercow made a surprise intervention in the Brexit process, telling prime minister Theresa May that unless her deal was substantially altered, it could not be put before the Commons for a third vote.
The move was celebrated by those pushing for a second referendum (who now feel this is more likely) and by those in favour of leaving without a deal at all (since if nothing gets sorted, the UK leaves in 10 days’ time). The onus is now on May to seek significant changes to her deal.
