Statement of intent

Universities pledge to get to grips with unexplained increases in the number of top degrees awarded.

“Transparency, reliability and fairness in the awarding of degrees are at the heart of a joint commitment published today by the higher education sector.”

So begins the press release accompanying the 20 May publication of a “statement of intent” on grade inflation by the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment, following research and a public consultation conducted by Universities UK, GuildHE and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
