Universities pledge to get to grips with unexplained increases in the number of top degrees awarded.

So begins the press release accompanying the 20 May publication of a “statement of intent” on grade inflation by the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment, following research and a public consultation conducted by Universities UK, GuildHE and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
