What do Remainers want?

The UK goes to the polls for elections to the European parliament.

Before the 2016 Brexit referendum, universities firmly nailed their colours to the mast of wishing to remain in the European Union. The vice-chancellors’ group Universities UK even had a seat on the steering group of the official remain campaign.

That dial has hardly moved in the three years that have followed. Even though there has been some soul searching on universities’ relationship to the communities they serve and higher education cold spots, the general view in academia is that it would be preferable for the UK to stay a member of the EU.
