What are the practical implications of government guidance on student migration for the holidays?

One of the joys of Christmas is the anticipation of surprises. However, by the time the Westminster government issued its guidelines for the end-of-term exodus of students from university campuses, there was little that was unexpected.

To borrow a phrase from president-elect Joe Biden, here’s the deal. Students will have a seven-day “travel window” after national restrictions end in England, to return home between 3 and 9 December.
