The government unveils stability loans for research, but a bigger announcement is on the way
This morning’s edition of Playbook could quite literally be book length, so let’s crack on. First things first, after the limited financial package announced on 4 May—£2.6 billion in advanced tuition fees and £100m in quality-related funding brought forward—the government revealed a second bailout package for university research on Saturday.
Daniel Cressey was up at midnight to post the details in his story as soon as the embargo was lifted. The package includes the offer of loans to offset the loss of international students, plus £180m in grants to support research salaries, lab costs, equipment and fieldwork.
