Universities UK publishes principles for reopening institutions and launches a charm offensive

It’s another busy day as the world of higher education attempts to pick up the pieces while lockdown restrictions ease. This morning, Universities UK provides guidelines for returning universities; employers and unions agree socially distanced working conditions; and the University and College Union publishes survey results that suggest a quarter of applicants fear their university will go bust.

These are unusually intense days for higher education. Universities will be in big trouble should students and staff lose faith in their ability to keep them safe on campus in the coming academic year.
