The news that vice-chancellors had been hoping for came yesterday afternoon. The poll of University and College Union members to renew a mandate for national strike action over pay and conditions failed to attract a 50 per cent turnout.
In seeking an aggregated vote across all universities, the UCU now has no mandate in any university (outside Northern Ireland, where the law is different) to continue industrial action.
