Could a cabinet reshuffle later today spell the end of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy? That’s the solid rumour doing the rounds ahead of an announcement expected from prime minister Rishi Sunak.
Ostensibly reshuffling the pack to replace Nadhim Zahawi as Conservative Party chair, Sunak is thought to be taking the opportunity to reshape his cabinet to reflect his priorities in government. Beis could be broken up into a department of energy—given energy’s political importance right now—and a department of science and technology.
