So is it to be all-out strikes? Escalation? Back to work? Or something else? Jo Grady, general secretary of the University and College Union, said she would abide by whatever the union’s Higher Education Committee, which met yesterday, decided, despite giving strong steers away from the committee’s preferred indefinite strike option and towards her own preference for escalation.
And she has got her way—although it will be quite some escalation, with the UCU announcing that universities will be hit with 18 days of strike action in February and March.
