Hepi advises researchers on how to influence policy, while some legislators have lost the plot
Former Office for Students board member Toby Young’s memoir of his time as a journalist in New York is entitled How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. The logline for the 2008 film adaptation boasts that it is “a true story based on a real idiot”.
That’s not quite the vibe that the Higher Education Policy Institute is going for this morning as it publishes a report on how to talk to policymakers about research. Hepi director Nick Hillman is of course a former special adviser to ministers, while one-time Hepi number two Diana Beech also operated as a policy adviser. So if anyone knows how to get a hearing in the corridors of power, it is the crew at Hepi.
