A report calls for an increase in graduate numbers

Suggestions that the UK needs more graduates have become rare. Far more prevalent has been the idea that the country has too many of them—at least that has been the implication made by successive education ministers and even the prime minister, through promotion of university alternatives and attacks on “rip-off” degrees.

In this context, even those representing university interests, such as Universities UK, seem to have considered it safer to stress the value of existing graduates rather than argue for an increase in their number.
