LSE takes out £80m loan to help fight Covid-19 ‘challenge’

Several universities take advantage of short-term debt offer to ease Covid-19 pressures

The London School of Economics and Political Science has taken out an £80 million loan as part of the Bank of England’s Covid-19 support package, explaining that the pandemic has been a “financial challenge”.

Weekly data published by the Bank of England on 11 March revealed that LSE has issued £80 million in commercial papers under the Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF), a programme jointly run by the Treasury and the Bank of England.
