Scotland strikes out

An independent Scotland would try to strike a deal with the British research councils to retain funding.

Alex Salmond (pictured), leader of the Scottish National Party, today launched a 670-page White Paper, which details plans for independence after a referendum next year.

In the event of a vote for independence, the paper says Scotland would try to maintain the “common research area” currently uniting Britain.
