Scotland seeks more teachers

Government announces 260 extra teacher training places.

The Scottish government will spend an additional £2 million to support 260 more teacher training places for 2016-17.

The additional places are for 60 postgraduate primary trainees, 185 postgraduate secondary and 15 undergraduate secondary trainees, bringing the total intake to 3,409, a rise for the fifth consecutive year. Targets have also been increased for science, technology, engineering and maths teachers.
