Rise in Scottish students going to university

More than 28,000 applicants gained a university place, up 5 per cent on last year.

Almost 97 per cent of applicants who gained a place were accepted onto full-time undergraduate courses run by Scottish universities, according to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. The results of the Scottish Highers were published on 9 August.

Most of the increase has come from the older age groups, it added.
