BTECs broadly welcomed

Members of the 19-strong University Alliance are well placed to expand student numbers.

University hopefuls holding BTEC qualifications are more likely to gain a place at University Alliance institutions than are applicants holding A-levels, according to an analysis by HE. Because increased demand for higher education is likely to come from people holding non-traditional qualifications, these institutions appear to be well placed to expand their student numbers.

The analysis used figures published by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service to calculate the acceptance rates of applicants with and without BTECs based on the number of applications and the number of acceptances for students with and without the qualification.
