The number of those securing a place at university has dropped, as A-level results show a rise in the top grades.
More than 416,300 students have been accepted at UK universities and colleges following the publication of A-level results, a drop of 7,570 compared with last year.
Some 2 per cent fewer students have been offered places on A-level results day than in 2016. The decrease is driven by a fall in the number of students from the European Union and mature students, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service said in a statement.
