UK institutes receiving record numbers of applications from around the world to study performing arts

There has been a significant jump in the number of international students coming to UK conservatoires to study music, while the number of UK students applying has flatlined.

Data from the admissions body Ucas reveal that 1,250 musicians from outside the EU have applied to music courses at specialist colleges starting in September 2020, up 25 per cent on the 990 who applied last year. Applications to music courses at conservatoires have to be submitted to Ucas by 1 October.
