Vice-chancellors’ body Universities UK International has warned that study abroad placements must continue to be funded after a record number of students went overseas during their course.
In a report on student mobility, published on 13 June, UUKi revealed that 18,510 students (7.8 per cent) who graduated in 2016-17 had gone abroad as part of their undergraduate programme, with almost half choosing to go through the EU-funded Erasmus+ exchange programme.
This is an increase from 16,580 among students who graduated in 2015-16. Data from the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey, for those who graduated in 2016-17, was used for the report.
