UUK puts admissions under the spotlight

Universities UK has announced a “major review” of university admissions practices.

The vice-chancellors’ group has established what it calls the “fair admissions review” to collect evidence on how admissions practices work, identify the main challenges linked to admissions and offer-making, and propose changes that will “ensure that university admissions work in the best interests of applicants”.

In a statement, UUK said it would assess the admissions principles established by the Schwartz review in 2004, and would look into practices such as unconditional and contextual offers. It is due to report in spring 2020.
