Welsh universities in the spotlight for wellbeing support

Universities’ initiatives to improve student health and wellbeing have been highlighted in a report by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.

The report, called Higher Education for a Healthy Nation: Student wellbeing and health, was published on 11 June. It includes more than 40 case studies showcasing how Welsh universities are trying to improve students’ mental and physical health.

In March, Welsh education minister Kirsty Williams pledged £2 million from the Welsh government—and distributed by HEFCW—to improve mental health and wellbeing in universities. In the report, HEFCW chair David Allen said he looked forward to seeing what universities did with the funding to improve their students’ experience.
