African academics slow to use online journals

‘‘Researchers have not realised the importance of the libraries in their research,’’ Mary Abukutsa, an agriculture lecturer at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, told SciDev.Net last year.

Researchers “have a mindset that does not allow them to continuously seek assistance from the libraries,” said Abukutsa, a pioneering researcher into traditional vegetables like African eggplant, nightshade and cowpeas.
