EU pledges €1bn—with strings—to clinical trials scheme

The European Commission has pledged €1 billion for the second phase of a clinical trials partnership focusing on developing countries. But it will only release the money if developing countries contribute too.

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership, created in 2003, targets the development of drugs, vaccines or diagnostics in diseases including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
