Tanzania malaria research achieves new high in research funding

Innovative malaria research has seen the first-ever researcher from Africa progress to the coveted second phase of funding offered by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the USA.

Fredros Okumu, currently a research scientist at Tanzania’s Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), received US $800,000 in the second phase of the Grand Challenges Explorations grant in July this year.
