Icipe, an African insect research institute focusing on food and health issues, will help the University of Somalia, in Mogadishu, draft course structures for masters and PhD degrees in biological sciences, agricultural sciences and public health.
The two organisations signed an agreement three weeks ago to cement the partnership that will also see the institute co-supervise postgraduate students, says the institute’s director, Christian Borgemeister.
Somalia has been mired in civil war since 1991. The capital, Mogadishu, has remained largely under government control, providing the peace that has enabled the university to continue operating.
