Science portfolio empty in Magufuli’s slimmed down cabinet

Nearly two months after John Magufuli emerged victorious in Tanzania’s general elections, the country still has no minister of science and technology.

The brief remained empty when Magufuli announced his lean cabinet on 10 December, culling 11 posts occupied during the reign of his predecessor, Jakaya Kikwete.

However, Magufuli said he was still vetting names for the minister of education, science, technology and vocational training, indicating that the role would be filled eventually.
