Kiwi university wins grant to study typhoid in Tanzania

A New Zealand university project studying typhoid fever in northern Tanzania has a received a boost courtesy of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The project, led by John Crump from the University of Otago, received NZ$439,000 (US$310,000) the university announced on 28 November.  

The university will partner with colleagues from the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Tanzania and Duke University in the US to study populations affected by typhoid and gauge the demand for a vaccine.
