UN names Rwanda president environmental champion

Rwandan president Paul Kagame was named as one of the United Nations' Champions of the Earth on 3 December.

Kagame was awarded the status during a conference in Mexico. The UN Environment Programme states that the awards are its highest accolades.

He won the policy leadership category for spearheading action against climate change and for supporting Rwanda’s national environmental programmes.
