KEMRI-Wellcome scientist wins big for mental health research

Symon Kariuki, a Kenyan mental health researcher, is one of five winners of a UK-funded early-career grant focusing on bringing mental health research into practice.

The Kenya Medical Research Institute-Wellcome Trust Research Programme scientist will get £225,000 (US$300,000) over three years from the UK-based mental health charity MQ 

His research, to be undertaken in Kenya, will seek to investigate genetic risk factors in epilepsy and mental illness. All the other winners are based in the UK.
