
The Inter-University Council for East Africa on 22 May announced four East Africa-based centres of excellence that will host World Bank sponsored “incubation centres”.
The centres, all part of the World Bank’s Africa Centers of Excellence in East and Southern Africa, will each receive US$250,000 to set up the hubs that will transform ACE research into marketable products.
The winning ACE centres are: energy and sustainable development at the University of Rwanda; research advancement, teaching excellence and sustainably in food and nutrition security at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in Tanzania; pharm-bio technology and traditional technology at Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda; and phytochemicals, textile and renewable energy at Moi University in Kenya.
