A dearth of PhD qualifications in Uganda is impeding the country’s development goals, a former head of the national higher education council has warned.
A.B.K. Kasozi, a former head of the National Council of Higher Education and research associate at the country’s Makerere University, referred to the “alarming shortage” of PhD holders in Uganda in an article published in the Makerere Journal of Higher Education on 8 August.
“[The number] is so low that it is wishful thinking that Uganda can be transformed into a modern society by 2040 as the official plan would have us believe,” he writes.
