European Investment Bank to fund infectious diseases research

The European Investment Bank plans to fund research in infectious diseases and health infrastructure in Africa.

Shiva Dustdar, head of research, development and innovation advisory at EIB, said the bank is creating “a financing mechanism” to provide grants for late stage clinical trials for infectious diseases.

“Some concrete discussions are underway and we should be able to present something tangible in 2015,” Dustdar told the launch of the second phase of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership in Cape Town, South Africa, on 2 December.
