Wellcome to focus more on UK public health

The UK’s Wellcome Trust’s long history of funding research in Africa will continue, though in the next few years the charity will work to strengthen UK population health, a senior director has said.

Jimmy Whitworth used to be the trust’s head of international activities. But since January this year he has held a new position: head of ‘population health’.

The division was created by merging international activities—Whitworth’s old charge—with the division of public health.
