African researchers are among the winners of funding worth US$17 million awarded by the United States’ Fogarty International Center to carry out HIV/Aids research training and study the stigma attached to the virus.
While US institutions will take the lead in most projects, almost all focus on Africa and involve many African co-principal investigators and organisations. Most of the funding is awarded through Fogarty’s HIV research training programme.
Two African institutions will lead five-year training projects, and another two will lead shorter training initiatives.
