TWAS emphasises role of developing country science in pandemic response

Global South has ‘specific expertise’ in battling infectious disease, academy says

The World Academy of Sciences has urged rich nations not to overlook scientists from developing countries, who they claim can be crucial in the fight against the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

The body said that scientists in developing countries have “specific experience” in battling infectious disease outbreaks. “They can provide valuable insights and indispensable contributions that must not be overlooked,” TWAS said in a 9 April statement.
