Europe lays foundation for renewed partnership with Africa

Science and clean energy among preliminary priorities for cooperation plan

The European Union council met in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on 30 June to kick-start the process of establishing a new partnership with Africa. 

In its conclusions from the meeting, the council noted that the “coming months will be important for the future of EU-Africa relations”. Partnership details will be thrashed out in a series of meetings. The council has called on African governments and organisations to outline their ideas.
