African and Arab countries urged to collaborate in education

Kuwait has set up an annual prize worth US$1 million to support development research in Africa.

The news was announced on 19 November at the opening of a two-day Africa-Arab heads of state meeting in Kuwait City. Over 60 countries attended the summit.

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences will supervise the award, which is given in honour of Abdulrahman Al-Sumai, the late founder of Kuwait-based Direct Aid, a philanthropic organisation.
