A new fellowship programme funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York seeks to link African higher education institutions with eminent African-born academics in North America.
The African Diaspora Fellowship programme is the brainchild of Paul Zeleza of Quinnipiac University, who heads the ADF advisory board.
A total of 100 fellowships will be awarded in 2014 and 2015 involving tenures of up to three months for a diaspora scholar at institutions in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
African institutions can submit a proposal involving curriculum co-development, research collaboration and student mentoring and training, which will then be matched to an applying diaspora academic. Applications can also be submitted collaboratively.
Visiting academics from the United States or Canada will receive a US$250 daily stipend, travel costs and health insurance. The host institution is expected to take care of local costs.
Applications close on 17 March with selections for the first round to be announced in May.
