Science, technology and innovation has emerged as one of six ‘pillars’ in the common African position on a post-2015 development agenda.
An African Union committee met in Chad on 25 February to agree on the position. The AU says it is still finalising a paper outlining the details of the document.
The inclusion of the STI pillar is a success for those lobbying for science to be viewed as a basis for development, says Abdul-Hakim Elwaer, who heads the AU’s human resources, science and technology directorate.
