Study maps colonialism’s effects on African science

A study has found that former British colonies in Africa perform better in science than those once run by the French or other colonial powers.

The study by Mawussé Okey from the University of Lomé, Togo, looks at university enrolment and article publication data from 47 African nations between 1994 and 2009.

Of the surveyed nations 18 were former British colonies, 20 ex-French colonies, and the rest were colonies of other countries.
