Grant signing kicks off World Bank’s ACEII programme

The World Bank and the Inter-University Council for East Africa have signed a US$8 million grant agreement towards supporting phase two of the African Centres of Excellence project.

The signing ceremony took place in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on 11 July. It marks the release of the first part of a US$148m investment from the bank approved on 26 May to support 24 postgraduate teaching and research centres from the Eastern and Southern Africa region.

The remaining US$140m will be availed via the bank’s loan through an agreement to be signed with the governments of each of the eight countries hosting the centres.
